When is it?

Saturday June 11th 2016 at Carleton University.

Is it indoor or outdoor?

It will be outdoor on Carleton University’s two turf fields.

What is the tournament format?

Each coed 7-a-side team is guaranteed to play a minimum of 3 games during their round-robin section on Saturday afternoon.

How many teams take part?

Last year we had 32 teams registered and can accommodate the same number of teams this year.

What is the tournament schedule?

We won’t have a final schedule until we have all the registrations in, however the approximate schedule will be:

  • Saturday 11th June 12.30-5pm: round robin group stages: all teams will play a minimum of 3 x 30 minute games.
  • Saturday 11th June 5pm-7.30pm: playoffs, single elimination knock-out format to crown the Kicking Cancer’s Butt champion for 2016.

How many players do I need for a team?

There are seven players on the field at any time and there has to be at least two male and two female players among the seven. Most teams carry a squad of somewhere around 10 players for the tournament, but teams have played with as few as 7 or as many as 19 in the past!

Will there be separate competitive and recreational tournaments again?

Almost certainly. We can’t decide on the final format until we know how many teams are registered and their relative skill levels, but running separate recreational and competitive tournaments was a bit hit last year. Regardless of the final format, all teams will play their round robin games on Saturday afternoon.

How do I register my team?

Team Registration will open tomorrow (Saturday 23rd of April).

Teams register for the tournament at the Ottawa Footy Sevens Website and will receive details of how to make their online donation to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation by e-mail within 24 hours of registering their team. Do NOT make your donation through the footy sevens site.

How do I donate and how much of my tournament fee goes to the charity?

100% of every team fee goes to the ORCF: staff volunteer their time and all other costs are covered by Footy Sevens. Once you have registered at the Footy Sevens Website, you will receive details of how to set up your donation at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation’s website and make your donation directly to them. Please do not make your donation until you receive the instructions: it makes it much easier to track if they are all paid on the same part of the site.

Can my team members make their donations individually or do I have to pay it all at once?

Each team will have a team donation page set up on the ORCF website. Team members and friends can go to that page and make their donation individually, or the captain can make the full donation at once. Either is absolutely fine.

Can I still register if I don’t have a team?

As per the previous 3 years, we will be offering individual registration for the tournament. Individual teams are organised by one of the long-term supporters of the tournament, Dave Walls, who has volunteered to organise individual teams for those who want to take part but do not have a full team available to them. Dave can be contacted at the address below.

Can we still bribe the ref?

Oh yeah! Its been part of the fun since the first ever tournament.
